These are the 3 mascaras. They all have very unique and different brushes designed to do different things. They all however have the same formula (well they appear to). The price for them is all the same. They cost around $19 AUD
I firstly might just say, I have very short thin eyelashes, and there aren't that many of them! So i need all the length and volume I can get. In these photos I have also not curled or used any other mascara on my lashes.
I used about 3 coats of each mascara and am not wearing any other makeup in the pictures.
Colossal
Brush
The brush for the Colossal mascara is very fat and full of bristles. This allows for it to really volumize your lashes. It also prevents from clumping.
Claims
The Colossal mascara claims to load your lashes with up to 9x more volume. It also claims to ensure all lashes are coated and "give gorgeous volume and concur clumps!"
What it does
I think this mascara does live up to its claims as it does give give my lashes a lot of volume with no clumps.
As you can see this mascara does lengthen my lashes as they are usually about half the length (or less!) The volume I think could be built up and you could make your lashes look a lot better with other makeup (such as eyeliner and eyeshadow or just layering the mascara even more.) Overall I am very happy with this product and wear it everyday.
One By One
Brush
The brush for the One By One mascara is quite different. The whole thing is rubber including the bristles. This allows for no clumps and individual lash separation.
Claims
The One By One mascara claims to:
-Have 3 bristles per lash to make every lash count
-Catch, coat and de-clump each lash to make them all fatter and flirtier
-Have instant clump free volume
What it does
I really do believe this mascara lives up to its claims as I have never experienced any clumping and my lashes always end up with a lot of length and volume.
As you can see this mascara looks very similar to the Colossal mascara when it's on. My lashes again have a lot of length and volume which could be built up even more. I do really like this mascara and wear it a lot.
The Falsies
I will just quickly say that in these pictures the waterproof Falsies is shown. I do have both but the normal (non-waterproof one) was drying out and the packaging was all scratched. I have found however that they work pretty much the same except the formula for the waterproof one is slightly thicker.
Brush
As you can see the brush for the Falsies mascara is scooped (kind of like a spoon) which allows for the lashes to be curled and lifted.
Claims
The Falsies claims to lift and separate lashes to provide the look of 300% more visible lashes corner to corner.
What it Does
I think the falsies is a great mascara, I used to love it and that is the reason for buying my second bottle (although the second time I bought the waterproof one). I like it but prefer to use it on top of another mascara.
I decided to make the camera angle slightly different for these shots to show how the mascara wand helps to lift and curl the lashes. Just like the other 2 mascaras my lashes are very long but this time with a bit more curl. This mascara also works great to hold a curl if you have curled your lashes.
(also please excuse the redness around my eye I accidentally poked myself in the eye that day :P)
I hope this post is helpful and shows the difference between the 3 volume express mascaras by Maybelline. I think overall I prefer the Colossal and then the One By One. I love all of them though and they all work their magic for different people. There is however a new version of the Falsies out which I must try and a new mascara that is not yet out called the "Mega Plush" mascara. I will do a pst on it as soon as it comes to Australia!!
A very nice post and helpful pictures. I like it.

DeleteI've never really heard of the One by One mascara. I think I may give it a try! Colossal is my HG drugstore mascara tho =)
ReplyDeleteI also love Colossal! But in my opinion One by One doesn't get as much recognition as it should, it's very good! xx
ReplyDeleteI love Falsies, I bought Rimmels Scandal Eyes thinking for some reason that it would be similar and its really not its soo clumpy. One by One looks amazing, I much prefer comb wand mascaras so think I will definitely have to try this one out. Really helpful post, I'm now following you :) x

Yay I am glad you liked the post! One by One is a great mascara and defiantly does not get as much recognition as it deserves! I am glad you followed my blog :)
DeleteSophie xx
Hi Sophie! Thanks for visiting my blog... actually the packaging I think it's pretty much the same here in Malaysia.. probably the lighting made the colours look different. :) But we don't have colossal though... :( would really wanna try that.
ReplyDeleteYeh the only thing that was different was the name of the yellow one, and I am sure there was a tiny difference on the falsies. I don't know it was just that yellow one which blew me away!
